Plasmodium Species, PCR
Use
Intended to be used as an aid in identifying species to human pathogenic Plasmodium sp (ie, P falciparum, P knowlesi, P malariae, P ovale, and P vivax).
Special Instructions
Refrigerate specimens. Blood should be collected in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube or yellow-top (ACD) tube. Proper labeling and storage is crucial to prevent sample rejection. This test employs real-time PCR methodology, which is highly sensitive for pathogen detection.
Limitations
This test cannot effectively process frozen blood samples, as these are deemed unstable and could result in false negatives. Additionally, the presence of prominent specimen contamination, improper labeling, or inadequate transport could lead to sample rejection. Results might be influenced by various factors including the presence of inhibitors in the specimen, which could affect the accuracy of the PCR amplification process.
