Postvasectomy Sperm Evaluation, Qualitative
Also known as: Semen Analysis, Postvasectomy
Use
Complete absence of sperm in this test is considered a negative result. Incomplete ejaculation and/or incomplete collection of total ejaculate may cause false-negative results.
Special Instructions
It is important to ensure the complete collection of the seminal fluid during the specimen collection process. Incomplete collection can lead to false-negative results. Patients should abstain from ejaculation for two to seven days prior to collecting the specimen.
Limitations
The test may return false-negative results in cases of incomplete ejaculation or insufficient specimen volume. Specimens must be handled correctly to avoid temperature extremes during transportation, which may affect the stability and integrity of the sample. Additionally, the presence of lymphocytes or other cells could potentially interfere with the evaluation, although it is rare.
