PrEP Use Only: Chlamydia/Gonococcus, Pharyngeal Swab, NAA
Also known as: Pre-exposure prophylaxis screening for Ct/GC, Pharyngeal Source
Use
This test is used for the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae in patients who are eligible for or who are receiving pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV (PrEP).
Special Instructions
Submit one specimen per test requested. Specify the exact specimen source/origin (e.g., pharyngeal). Indicate a specific test number on the test request form. Use the blue-shafted swab, labeled 'unisex collection swab for endocervical and male urethral specimens,' to rub the posterior pharynx and tonsillar areas.
Limitations
The test requires proper specimen collection using the Aptima swab collection tube. Inappropriate transport conditions or other transport devices can lead to rejection. The test results are limited to the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae and do not provide information on other infections or disease states. False negatives may occur if the infection is below the detection limit or due to improper specimen handling.
