Prostatic Acid Phosphatase (PAP) (Serial Monitor)
Use
The Prostatic Acid Phosphatase (PAP) test is used for long-term serial monitoring of patients. PAP is an enzyme produced by the prostate and is a useful marker for monitoring prostate cancer therapy. Elevated levels of PAP may indicate prostate cancer or other conditions. This test provides a color graphic summary report of the patient's PAP levels over time, allowing healthcare providers to assess the effectiveness of treatment courses and make informed decisions.
Special Instructions
The account must submit the patient's Social Security number to monitor serial test results. Values obtained with different assay methods should not be used interchangeably in serial testing. It is recommended that only one assay method be used consistently to monitor each patient's progress. To order this test without the serial monitor service, use test 004747. For comprehensive test details, refer to Prostatic Acid Phosphatase (PAP) [004747].
Limitations
Results obtained with different assay methods may not be directly comparable. Test values should not be interpreted as definitive evidence of the presence or absence of malignant disease. The assay methods used can influence the quantitative results and detection capability across different platforms, thus consistent methodology is advised for reliable longitudinal assessment.
