Pumpkin
Use
The Pumpkin test measures levels of specific IgE antibodies in the blood to diagnose allergic reactions to pumpkin. IgE antibodies are associated with allergic responses, and their measurement can help determine sensitization to pumpkin. This test assists healthcare providers in confirming allergies and formulating an appropriate management plan for the patient.
Special Instructions
Specimens should be collected in a red-top or gel-barrier tube and maintained at room temperature for up to 14 days or refrigerated for the same duration. It is crucial to avoid freeze/thaw cycles exceeding three as this might compromise sample integrity.
Limitations
The Pumpkin test is specific for IgE associated with pumpkin allergens and may not detect other forms of hypersensitivities such as non-IgE mediated allergies. False positives or negatives may occur, and cross-reactivity with other allergens is possible. Factors like medication and recent allergen exposure may affect IgE levels, and results should be interpreted in clinical context with other diagnostic evaluations.
