Semen Analysis, Basic
Use
Diagnose male factor infertility, including oligozoöspermia, azoöspermia, asthenozoöspermia, and teratozoöspermia
Special Instructions
This test is not available at all locations, and it is necessary to contact the laboratory before specimen collection. The procedure must be scheduled with the performing laboratory. It requires a fresh specimen and is only available at sperm testing facilities. Patients must abstain from sexual activity for two to seven days before specimen collection. The specimen must be kept at room temperature and close to the body to avoid temperature extremes during transport.
Limitations
Specimens older than one hour and those with insufficient sperm, which may prevent an adequate estimate of percent normal morphology, are causes for rejection. Testing must commence within 60 minutes of specimen production. The specimen is unstable if refrigerated or frozen, making temperature control crucial.
