Thyrotropin Receptor Antibody, Serum
Also known as: LATS, Long-acting Thyroid Stimulator, TBII, Thyrotropin-binding Inhibitory Immunoglobulin, TRAb
Use
Diagnosis of hyperthyroidism and Graves' disease
Special Instructions
This test may show interference if the sample is collected from a person consuming a high dose of biotin supplements. It is advised to query patients about biotin intake and ask them to stop biotin consumption at least 72 hours before sample collection.
Limitations
The test may produce inaccurate results if the sample is lipemic, hemolyzed, or collected from a patient on heparin therapy. Citrate plasma is not an acceptable specimen type. While this test is a valuable diagnostic tool for Graves' disease and hyperthyroidism, its accuracy can be compromised by improper specimen handling and environmental factors affecting sample integrity.
