Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor
Also known as: VEGF-A, Serum
Use
This test is used for measurement of vascular endothelial growth factor levels in serum.
Special Instructions
The presence of bevacizumab in patient serum interferes with detection of VEGF, therefore caution is advised while interpreting results for patients undergoing such treatment. It's important to avoid submitting non-frozen specimens or those that are grossly hemolyzed or lipemic, to prevent specimen rejection.
Limitations
This test's performance characteristics were determined by Labcorp and it has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Elevated VEGF levels must be interpreted in the clinical context of the patient. Normal VEGF concentrations do not exclude the diagnosis of POEMS (Polyneuropathy, Organomegaly, Endocrinopathy, M-protein, skin changes) syndrome.
