1p/19q Deletion in Gliomas, FISH, Tissue
Use
This test aids in diagnosing oligodendroglioma tumors and predicting the response of an oligodendroglioma to therapy. It is useful in tumors with a complex 'hybrid' morphology requiring differentiation from pure astrocytomas to support the presence of oligodendroglial differentiation/lineage. It is indicated for diagnosing oligodendroglioma, both low-grade World Health Organization (WHO, grade II) and anaplastic (WHO, grade III). It is also recommended for diagnosing mixed oligoastrocytomas.
Special Instructions
A reason for testing and pathology report are required for testing to be performed. Send information with such specimen, including working drafts, preliminary pathology, or surgical pathology reports if applicable. The specimen should be shipped via Express Mail or equivalent if not using a courier service.
Limitations
This test is not approved by the US FDA and is best used as an adjunct to existing clinical and pathologic information. Negative results do not exclude a diagnosis of oligodendroglioma or high-grade astrocytoma. Deletions can predict prognosis and response to treatments but are not definitive. Gain or loss of specific chromosomes are indicative but not absolute indicators of tumor type.
