Annexin-1 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Annexin-1 (annexin-A1) was identified by gene expression profiling studies of hairy cell leukemia. In the appropriate context, positivity for annexin A1 favors a diagnosis of hairy cell leukemia. Normal granulocytes and precursors also express annexin A1, serving as a positive internal control in bone marrow specimens. This test is clinically useful for the classification of leukemias.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as they will be canceled if ordered together. Attach the green pathology address label and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label to the transport container.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only technical performance. Interpretation should be in the context of the patient's clinical history and performed by a qualified pathologist. The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and best practice dictates cutting within 6 weeks. The charge of glass slides can be influenced by environmental factors, affecting staining. Minimize slide exposure to humidity and heat, and store appropriately.
