Apolipoprotein E Genotyping, Blood
Use
Determining specific apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotypes is useful for diagnosing individuals with type III hyperlipoproteinemia and assessing risk in individuals treated with B-amyloid-targeting antibodies for Alzheimer's disease. APOE genotyping is also associated with Alzheimer's susceptibility, although not recommended for predictive testing due to limited utility.
Special Instructions
New York Clients-Informed consent is required. Document on the request form or electronic order that a copy is on file. Efficient handling and transportation of specimens are necessary to ensure validity of test results.
Limitations
This assay does not identify all genetic variants causing type III hyperlipoproteinemia. Rare polymorphisms may result in false negatives/positives. The test cannot predict or exclude Alzheimer disease development. Interpretation requires clinical correlation due to potential discrepancies from rare alleles or DNA quality.
