Arsenic/Creatinine, Ratio, with Reflex, Random, Urine
Use
Preferred screening test for detection of arsenic exposure using random urine specimens. Measurement of urinary total arsenic concentration helps detect recent exposure and when elevated, reflex speciation of arsenic forms (inorganic vs organic) is performed for further risk stratification.
Special Instructions
If total arsenic concentration is 10 mcg/L or greater, then speciation (Arsenic Speciation, Random, U; SPAS) will be performed at additional charge. Patient should avoid seafood for 48 hours prior to collection. If gadolinium- or iodine-containing contrast was administered, delay collection for 96 hours. Refer to Metals Analysis Specimen Collection and Transport for complete instructions.
Limitations
Consumption of seafood prior to collection may lead to misleading elevated arsenic results. This test cannot predict health effects of arsenic exposure. It measures only recent exposure via urinary excretion. All specimens evaluated for suitability; unsuitable specimens may be rejected.
