Aspergillus Antibodies, Quantitative, DID
Use
The Aspergillus Antibodies, Quantitative, DID test is used to aid in the diagnosis of aspergillosis, an infection caused by Aspergillus species of fungi. It may help identify exposure to Aspergillus and evaluate the presence of immune response to Aspergillus fumigatus, Aspergillus flavus, and Aspergillus niger. Tests like this are typically utilized in conjunction with clinical evaluations, imaging studies, and other laboratory findings to provide a comprehensive assessment. The quantification of specific antibodies is useful in understanding the immune response and in monitoring patients for evidence of infection.
Special Instructions
Ensure proper sample collection and transport conditions to maintain specimen stability. Use red top or serum gel tubes for collection, and transfer the serum to a plastic vial. The specimen must be frozen immediately after centrifugation to prevent degradation.
Limitations
The test does not differentiate between past and current infections or between colonization and invasive disease. Cross-reactivity with antibodies to other fungi can occur, potentially leading to false-positive results. Interpretation of test results should be done in the context of clinical findings and other diagnostic procedures. Negative results do not rule out the possibility of aspergillosis, especially in cases of immunocompromised patients or those with severe diseases where antibody production might be impaired.
