B-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia/Lymphoma, FISH, Tissue
Use
This test is useful for detecting recurrent chromosome abnormalities associated with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma (B-ALL/LBL) and Philadelphia chromosome-like acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph-like ALL). It is particularly utilized at diagnosis to monitor response to therapy by tracking known chromosome abnormalities in patients with B-ALL/LBL. The test employs fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) on paraffin-embedded specimens to identify these chromosomal changes.

Not provided.
Limitations
This test is not FDA-cleared or approved and serves as an adjunct to clinical and pathological information. FISH assays may not succeed with non-formalin fixed or decalcified specimens; success rate for decalcified specimens is about 50%. The assay does not detect all possible chromosome abnormalities, so a negative result does not rule out the presence of neoplastic disorders.

Collection Instructions
Submit formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor tissue block. Blocks with alternative fixation will be attempted but are less favorable. Decalcified specimens have a 50% success rate. Fresh tissue will be rejected.
Causes for Rejection
Fresh tissue is not acceptable.
