BCR/ABL1, p190, mRNA Detection, Reverse Transcription-PCR (RT-PCR), Quantitative, Reflex, Varies
Use
This test is used for the diagnostic workup of patients with a high probability of BCR-ABL1-positive hematopoietic neoplasms, particularly acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-lymphoblastic leukemia). It provides a pretreatment quantitative level of BCR-ABL1 mRNA transcript if the initial diagnostic reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) screen is positive. Upon positivity, the reflex test gives a quantitative value for the corresponding e1-a2 (p190) BCR-ABL1 mRNA fusion variant.
Special Instructions
The test is only orderable as a reflex following an initial positive RT-PCR screen. Ensure proper mixing by inverting the specimen several times. Send the specimen in the original tube and do not aliquot. Label specimens appropriately as blood or bone marrow, according to their source.
Limitations
Results of this assay should not be directly compared to those generated from PCR assays performed in other laboratories. If an alternative BCR-ABL1 mRNA transcript is identified where quantitative testing is unavailable, reflex testing is not possible. Monitoring should consistently use the same method and laboratory to ensure comparability.
