Bile Acids, Urine
Use
The test is designed to measure bile acids in urine, which can be indicative of certain metabolic disorders, liver function, and other physiological conditions. The measurement of bile acids can help diagnose and monitor diseases such as liver disease, cholestasis, and disorders related to bile acid metabolism.
Special Instructions
Patients should preferably be off Urso or Actigall for 5 days before sample collection. Clinical history and preliminary diagnosis should be submitted with the specimen. Both urine and serum samples should be sent for analysis if possible, although they need to be ordered separately as different tests.
Limitations
As the test is not FDA cleared or approved, it may not be used for any purpose beyond those validated by the Clinical Mass Spectrometry Laboratory. Results may vary depending on the specimen handling or the presence of interfering substances.
