Calretinin Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
Calretinin immunostain is used to separate mesotheliomas from carcinomas, which usually lack expression of calretinin. Calretinin is expressed in benign and malignant mesothelial cells and is strongly expressed in Leydig cells of the testis. This test is useful in differential diagnosis, particularly in distinguishing malignant mesotheliomas from other forms of cancer.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
The test does not include a pathologist's interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity. Stability thresholds vary widely among published literature and are antigen dependent. Minimize the time slides are stored after being unpackaged, and limit exposure to high humidity and heat. Unsuitable glass slides can result in inconsistent staining due to poor slide surface chemistry.
