Carmine Dye/Red Dye Cochineal (Dactylopius coccus) IgE (Red # 4)
Use
This test is designed to detect the presence of specific IgE antibodies to Carmine Dye/Red Dye Cochineal. It is used to evaluate patients who may have a hypersensitivity or allergic response to this dye, commonly used in food and cosmetics. Knowing the levels of IgE can guide clinicians in diagnosis and management of allergic reactions, potentially aiding in dietary or lifestyle modifications to avoid allergen exposure.
Special Instructions
Ensure that the specimen collected is centrifuged and the serum is aliquoted into a plastic vial before refrigerating. The preferred collection tube is a red top, but a serum gel tube is also acceptable. Make sure to send the specimen refrigerated to maintain stability.
Limitations
The presence of specific IgE antibodies indicates sensitization to Carmine Dye, but it does not predict the severity of allergic reactions. False positives or negatives can occur; therefore, test results should not be solely relied upon to diagnose allergy. Clinical correlation with patient history is necessary. Gross lipemia in specimens may result in rejection due to interference with the assay.
