CD103 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
CD103, also known as integrin alpha E, is an integrin subunit protein, which is widely expressed on T cells. CD103 is a useful diagnostic tool in the diagnosis of hairy cell leukemia and marginal zone lymphomas. This test aids in identifying these conditions by staining for CD103, which is prevalent in these disorders. The test itself can be used as a diagnostic adjunct in conjunction with other tests and clinical evaluations to help clarify the diagnosis.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not provide a pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with a Pathology Consultation (PATHC). If so, the technical component stains will be canceled. Attach the green pathology address label and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label included in the kit to the outside of the transport container. Complete an Immunohistochemical (IHC)/In Situ Hybridization (ISH) Stains Request form if not ordering electronically.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation; it provides only the technical stain. Interpretation is recommended to be performed by a pathologist using the patient's clinical history and other test results. Stability of paraffin sections can vary, and older sections may affect immunoreactivity. Glass slide quality can affect staining, and specific storage conditions are recommended to preserve slide quality. Wet/frozen tissue, non-formalin fixed tissues, non-paraffin embedded tissues, and non-charged slides can result in rejection of the specimen.
