CD14 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
CD14 (cluster of differentiation 14) is a glycosylphosphatidylinositol-linked glycoprotein predominantly found on mature cells of monocytic lineage, such as monocytes, macrophages, and Langerhans cells, as well as follicular dendritic cells. It serves as an important marker for identifying histiocytic/monocytic lineage in acute leukemias. The presence of CD14 can provide valuable information in the assessment of marrow, blood, and tissue samples, aiding in the diagnosis and evaluation of hematological conditions.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not provide a pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered alongside PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as the technical component stains will be canceled if this occurs. Additionally, ensure the use of the specific Immunostain Technical Only Envelope for specimen submission.
Limitations
The test solely comprises the technical aspect of staining procedures without pathologist interpretation. Immunoreactivity can be influenced by several factors such as the age of paraffin sections and the quality of glass slides. Furthermore, environmental factors may affect the charge of the slides and ultimately influence the staining results. For optimal outcomes, paraffin sections should be cut within 6 weeks, and glass slides should be handled with care to avoid exposure to high humidity and heat.
