CD163 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The CD163 immunostain is utilized for the identification of cells of monocytic/histiocytic lineage, which express the marker CD163 late in their maturation. CD163 is a scavenger receptor for the hemoglobin-haptoglobin complex and offers superior specificity for the monocytic/histiocytic lineage compared to CD68. The stain is useful for evaluating histiocytes in normal lymphoid tissues, showing positive staining in the paracortex and follicle center (tingible body macrophages). The test aids in the assessment of such cells in a clinical and histopathological context.
Special Instructions
This test only includes the technical performance of the immunohistochemical stain without pathologist interpretation. If ordered together with PATHC/Pathology Consultation, the technical component stains will be canceled as it is performed at the reviewing pathologist's discretion. Ensure proper labeling of transport containers and utilize the Immunostain Technical Only Envelope for shipping.
Limitations
Age of the paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, with antigen-dependent stability thresholds varying widely. The charge on glass slides may be impacted by environmental factors, potentially altering stain quality. It's best to minimize storage time and exposure to humidity and heat for positive slide performance. The test does not provide interpretive commentary; interpretation should be performed with clinical context by a qualified pathologist.
