CD19 Immunostain, Bone Marrow, Technical Component Only
Use
CD19 is a protein expressed by normal and neoplastic B cells. It is not found on T cells, monocytes, or granulocytes. This protein plays a crucial role as an additional marker for B cell lineage in leukemias and lymphomas, helping to identify normal and abnormal B cells. CD19 expression is consistent across all stages of B-cell maturation, including plasma cells, and can occasionally be seen in some acute myeloid leukemias.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain and does not provide a pathologist interpretation. If ordered alongside a Pathology Consultation (PATHC), the technical component stains will be canceled. It is crucial to use the correct labels and forms when sending the specimen, as outlined in the Shipping Instructions and Forms sections.
Limitations
The test is specifically optimized for use on B5-fixed, decalcified, paraffin-embedded bone marrow specimens. The age of the cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, with stability thresholds being antigen-dependent and varying widely in published literature. It is considered best practice for paraffin sections to be cut within 6 weeks to ensure optimal reactivity. Inappropriate specimen types, as well as improperly handled or preserved samples, may be rejected.
