CD21 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
CD21 immunostaining is useful for the identification of follicular dendritic cells and a subset of mantle zone lymphocytes. Follicular dendritic cells play a role in presenting antigens to B cells within the germinal centers of lymphoid follicles. The test can support a diagnosis of follicular dendritic cell sarcoma or confirm the presence of lymphoid follicles.
Special Instructions
The test includes only technical performance of the stain and does not provide a pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with a Pathology Consultation (PATHC) as the technical component will be canceled and any IHC/ISH stains part of PATHC will be at the pathologist's discretion with an additional charge.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, which needs to be ordered separately. The charge of glass slides and environmental factors can affect slide staining; best practices should be adhered to for storage. The age of paraffin sections may also impact immunoreactivity, with stability being antigen-dependent. For accuracy, paraffin sections should be cut within 6 weeks.
