CD25 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The test is useful for the classification of lymphomas. CD25, also known as the receptor for IL2, is expressed on activated T cells, B cells, and macrophages. It is relevant for identifying certain types of B-cell lymphoma, such as hairy cell leukemia, and T-cell lymphoma, like adult T-cell lymphoma/leukemia (ATLL). Anti-CD25 therapy can be used for patients with lymphomas expressing CD25.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the CD25 immunohistochemical stain and does not provide a pathologist's interpretation. It should not be ordered alongside PATHC/Pathology Consultation because the technical component stains will be canceled if done so. Any IHC/ISH stain performed as part of PATHC will be at the discretion of the reviewing pathologist and incur additional charges.
Limitations
The test is solely a technical component and does not include interpretation. Age and environmental conditions affecting the glass slides, such as storage time, humidity, and heat, can lead to inconsistent staining and immunoreactivity. Best practices include minimizing time after unpackaging, limiting exposure to adverse conditions, and ensuring the immediate use of positively charged slides.
