CD31 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
CD31 (cluster of differentiation 31) is a marker of endothelial cells and shows expression on these cells with membrane and occasional cytoplasmic staining. It helps in diagnosing conditions like angiosarcoma, a neoplasm of endothelial cells. It is not expressed in discontinuous endothelium such as the splenic red pulp, but is found on other cell types like megakaryocytes, histiocytes, plasma cells, and certain T-cell subsets.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the immunohistochemical (IHC) stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. Technical components are not to be ordered alongside PATHC / Pathology Consultation as they will be canceled.
Limitations
The test is limited to technical performance of the stain, without pathologist interpretation. The age of a cut paraffin section can significantly affect immunoreactivity, and stability thresholds vary and are antigen dependent. Furthermore, the charge of glass slides is influenced by environmental factors, potentially affecting stain quality.
