CD57 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
CD57 (cluster of differentiation 57) is a marker for natural killer (NK) cells and a subset of T helper cells, and its presence is associated with tumors of neuroectodermal origin, such as small cell lung carcinoma and carcinoid tumors. It is also expressed in adenocarcinomas of the prostate, and in normal and hyperplastic prostatic epitheliums.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. If interpretation is required, order PATHC / Pathology Consultation for full diagnostic evaluation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC, as they will be canceled if ordered together.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation. The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and stability thresholds vary widely in literature. Best practices suggest limiting time slides are stored after being unpackaged and minimizing exposure to high humidity and heat, as environmental factors can alter slide chemistry.
