CD68 (KP1) Immunostain, Tissue, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for aiding in the identification of histocytic and myeloid lineage cells. CD68 KP-1 stains the cytoplasm of granulocytes and myeloid progenitor cells in the bone marrow, monocytes, macrophages, and osteoclasts. Though primarily used as a histiocytic marker, it is also expressed in other cell types like malignant melanoma, granular cell tumors, and various mesenchymal neoplasms.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain without pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation, as technical component stains will be canceled if ordered with PATHC. Appropriate labels should be attached to the transport container.
Limitations
This test's interpretation should be performed in the context of the patient's clinical history by a qualified pathologist. The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and best practice is for sections to be cut within 6 weeks. Environmental factors affecting the charge of glass slides can alter staining results.
