CD71 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The test is useful for the assessment of erythroid lineage by detecting the expression of the transferrin receptor, CD71, which is highly expressed on erythroid cells. It plays a crucial role in mediating the uptake of transferrin-iron complexes essential for erythropoiesis. The expression levels are highest in early erythroid precursors through the intermediate normoblast phase and decrease during the reticulocyte phase.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the immunohistochemical stain and does not include pathologist interpretation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled. Digital images of IHC stains are accessible to clients who place orders electronically.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, and interpretation should be performed in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests by a qualified pathologist. The age of cut paraffin sections and the environmental exposure of glass slides can affect the quality of immunoreactivity. Best practice suggests cutting paraffin sections within 6 weeks and minimizing storage time for slides.
