CD8 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
CD8, or cluster of differentiation 8, is a transmembrane glycoprotein primarily expressed in cytotoxic T cells. The identification of CD8 is crucial for diagnosing and classifying lymphomas and chronic lymphoproliferative disorders. The presence of CD8-positive T-lymphocytes can provide important diagnostic and prognostic information, which may influence treatment decisions in various clinical settings including oncology, particularly in the context of tumor-associated lymphocytes, which are often indicative of a favorable prognosis in certain types of cancers.
Special Instructions
This test is intended solely for the technical component of CD8 immunostaining and does not include pathologist interpretation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation as the latter includes interpretation. Any IHC/ISH stains ordered via PATHC will be conducted at the pathologist's discretion at an additional charge. It is important to utilize the provided 'Immunostain Technical Only' kit labels when submitting specimens.
Limitations
Age of cut paraffin sections and environmental factors affecting slide chemistry can influence immunoreactivity and staining quality. Stability of antigens may vary widely based on literature, and it is recommended to perform staining within specific thresholds to avoid loss of immunoreactivity. Slides should be stored to minimize exposure to heat and humidity, and unsuitable slides may lead to inconsistent staining results. Best practice is to use new positively charged slides and avoid materials that are prone to alterations due to storage conditions.
