CD99 (MIC-2) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
CD99 is useful for the identification of Ewing sarcoma and primitive neuroectodermal tumors. It's expressed in normal tissues including lymphocytes, pancreatic islet cells, and other cell types. It can help in differentiating Ewing sarcoma from other small round blue cell tumors common in children and adolescents.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain without pathologist interpretation. Technical component only stains should not be ordered with PATHC / Pathology Consultation. If ordered together, the technical component stains will be canceled. Information on accessing digital images is available via the Mayo Clinic Labs website.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, which must be ordered separately if required. The age of a paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity and stability thresholds vary according to antigen dependences. Slide staining may be affected by environmental factors and unsuitable glass slides may lead to inconsistent staining.
