CDX2 Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is useful for the identification of carcinoma of intestinal origin. CDX2, a transcription factor, is part of the caudal type homeobox gene family and plays a significant role in regulating the proliferation and differentiation of intestinal epithelial cells. The immunohistochemistry (IHC) test aids in confirming carcinoma diagnosis by demonstrating the presence of CDX2 protein in tissue samples, which is indicative of intestinal-related malignancies.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain without a pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered in conjunction with PATHC / Pathology Consultation as the technical component stains will be canceled if PATHC is ordered. Furthermore, any IHC/ISH performed as part of PATHC is at the reviewing pathologist's discretion and may incur additional charges. The shipping instructions require attaching specific labels (green 'Attention Pathology' and pink 'Immunostain Technical Only') to the transport container.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, and results must be interpreted in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and other diagnostics by a qualified pathologist. Aging paraffin sections may affect immunoreactivity, with variability in stability across antigen types and published literature. The integrity of slide chemistry is subject to environmental influences, which can lead to inconsistent staining results. Best practices include minimizing slide storage after unpacking and reducing exposure to humidity and heat.
