Chimerism Transplant Sorted Cells, Varies
Use
This test is utilized for determining the relative amounts of donor and recipient cells within sorted cell fractions of a specimen. It serves as an indicator of the success of bone marrow transplants by identifying and quantifying chimerism – the presence of both donor and recipient cells.
Special Instructions
For post-bone marrow transplant evaluations, the CHIMS test is vital. It requires collection and shipping of specimens timely, within four days of collection, to ensure accurate processing. Failure to provide required specimen type information will delay testing.
Limitations
Sensitivity of the test can vary depending on the proportions of donor and recipient cells in the sample, with results rounded to the nearest 5% or 10%. In rare instances, especially matched related stem cell transplants, STR patterns may be identical resulting in non-informative results. The test's sensitivity threshold is around 5% for mixed chimerism.
