Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Miscellaneous Sites, Nucleic Acid Amplification, Varies
Use
This test is used to detect Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae in non-FDA-approved specimen types, such as ocular or peritoneal fluid. It's crucial for identifying these specific pathogens in sites not approved by the FDA, allowing for targeted treatment. Annual screening, especially for sexually active women and pregnant women, is recommended due to the asymptomatic nature of many infections, potentially preventing complications like infertility and facilitating timely treatment.
Special Instructions
This test should not be used for medico-legal purposes or for detecting Chlamydia pneumoniae or other Chlamydia species. Specimen source must be specified when ordering this test. Use appropriate Aptima swabs for collection.
Limitations
This test does not detect Chlamydia pneumoniae or other Chlamydia species. Improper specimen collection, concurrent antibiotic therapy, and low organism quantity may cause false negatives. Positive results should be interpreted with caution in low-prevalence populations due to possible false-positives. Persisting nucleic acids post-treatment can be misinterpreted as active infection, so clinical context is essential for result interpretation.
