Chronic Hepatitis B Monitoring Profile, Serum
Use
The Chronic Hepatitis B Monitoring Profile is used for evaluating and monitoring individuals with known chronic hepatitis B. It is particularly useful for tracking hepatitis B viral infectivity after the resolution of acute hepatitis B. This profile includes tests that help determine the presence and activity of the hepatitis B virus through serologic markers. Such testing supports clinicians in making informed decisions about ongoing treatment and monitoring of chronic hepatitis B patients.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid taking multivitamins or dietary supplements containing biotin (vitamin B7) for 24 hours before specimen collection, as it may interfere with the test results. Gross hemolysis, lipemia, and icterus in specimens may result in rejection. Tests must comply with state communicable disease reporting requirements.
Limitations
The assays in this profile have not been tested in patients younger than 2 years, pregnant women, or immunocompromised populations. Performance has not been established for samples with certain characteristics such as grossly icteric or lipemic specimens. The presence of interfering substances like biotin may cause false results, especially with high intake of biotin supplements not ceased before testing.
