Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, Specified FISH, Varies
Use
Detecting recurrent common chromosome abnormalities in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) using client-specified probe sets. Distinguishing patients with 11;14 translocations who have the leukemic phase of mantle cell lymphoma from those who have CLL. Detecting patients with atypical CLL with translocations between IGH and BCL3. Evaluating specimens in which chromosome studies are unsuccessful. This test uses fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) to provide important insights into the chromosomal abnormalities associated with CLL, which can significantly influence clinical management and prognosis.
Special Instructions
This test is performed using client-specified FISH probes and is not intended as a panel test. Specific probes must be listed in the probe request field. Reflex probes can be performed when appropriate if specified in the order request field. Ancillary probes may be performed at consultant discretion and incur additional charges. A reason for testing must be provided, and submission of a flow cytometry or bone marrow pathology report is recommended. Use Express Mail or equivalent if not on courier service.
Limitations
This FISH assay is not a substitute for conventional chromosome studies, which can detect abnormalities associated with other hematological disorders. The test's utility is limited to detecting chromosome abnormalities known to be associated with CLL, and it does not detect abnormalities not included in the specific probe set requested. The test is not FDA approved and should be used as an adjunct to clinical and pathologic information. Improper specimen collection and handling or inappropriate test selection can cause diagnostic confusion.
