Coccidioides Antibody Reflex, Complement Fixation and Immunodiffusion, Serum
Use
Serologic testing for coccidioidomycosis. Detection of IgG antibody by complement fixation and precipitating IgM/IgG antibodies by immunodiffusion in serum, useful in patients with pulmonary or meningeal infection and history of travel or exposure to endemic areas. Over 90% of primary symptomatic cases detected by combined ID and CF testing.
Special Instructions
Only orderable as a reflex following the Coccidioides Antibody Screen with Reflex, Serum (COXIS).
Limitations
Antibodies (IgM and IgG) may persist after infection has resolved; CF titers may persist for months, making active infection interpretation complex.
