Complement 4d Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The test is useful for identifying antibody-mediated transplant rejection. It involves the deposition of Complement 4d (C4d), a split product resulting from complement activation, on the walls of peritubular capillaries in kidney allografts or capillaries in cardiac allografts. This presence is associated with antibody-mediated transplant rejection, which is critical information for diagnosing and understanding the rejection in transplant patients.
Special Instructions
The test is limited to the technical performance of the stain and does not include pathologist interpretation. If a pathologist's interpretation is required, the PATHC / Pathology Consultation should be ordered separately. The green 'Attention Pathology' address label (T498) and the pink Immunostain Technical Only label should be attached to the outside of the transport container.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and best practice suggests cutting paraffin sections within 6 weeks. Slides’ chemical charges can affect slide staining, potentially leading to inconsistent results due to poor slide surface chemistry. Unsuitable glass slides can result in inconsistent staining.
