Comprehensive Drug Screen, Umbilical Cord Tissue
Use
This test is a comprehensive drug screen using umbilical cord tissue to detect and confirm the presence of multiple drugs and their metabolites. It is used to assess exposure to drugs in the prenatal period, helping to inform treatment decisions for the newborn and provide information on maternal drug use. The panel can identify opiates, benzodiazepines, acetyl fentanyl, novel psychoactives, amphetamines, cocaine, cannabinoids, muscle relaxants, phencyclidine, barbiturates, gabapentin, zolpidem, and other substances.
Special Instructions
A specimen must not be shared between multiple orders. Proper collection methods are essential, including removing any blood, washing, and proper storage conditions as specified.
Limitations
These tests are not intended to monitor compliance with drug therapy. Only drugs and metabolites covered by the test panel will be detected. The detection window is limited to the time during which the exposed drug can be detected in the umbilical cord tissue, and some drug metabolites may not be stable over time or under improper storage conditions.
