Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The test is useful for the identification of cytomegalovirus infection by visualizing intranuclear and cytoplasmic viral inclusions in CMV-infected cells. CMV can cause severe systemic infection, either primary or reactivated, particularly in immunocompromised patients. The test does not react with normal human tissue due to the specific antibodies used.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Age of paraffin sections can significantly affect immunoreactivity, with stability thresholds varying across literature. High humidity and heat can affect the charge of glass slides, impacting staining quality. It is recommended to minimize time between slide preparation and staining. Unsuitable slides can lead to inconsistencies in staining due to suboptimal slide surface chemistry.
