Date, Tree, IgE, Serum
Use
This test is useful for establishing the diagnosis of an allergy to date, tree by defining the allergen responsible for eliciting signs and symptoms. It helps identify the allergens responsible for allergic responses or anaphylactic episodes, confirm sensitization prior to immunotherapy, and investigate allergic reactions to different allergens like drugs or chemical allergens. IgE antibodies indicate the immune response and its role in allergic diseases, thus helping differentiate allergic disorders from other conditions.
Special Instructions
Ordering electronically is recommended for efficiency. If not ordering electronically, complete, print, and send an Allergen Test Request form (T236) with the specimen. For proper collection, centrifuge and aliquot serum into a plastic vial.
Limitations
The test is not useful to determine residual clinical sensitivity in patients who have undergone immunotherapy. Individuals with minimal clinical sensitivity might still show measurable serum IgE levels, so test results should be interpreted within the clinical context. Also, false-positive results might occur in patients with very high total serum IgE due to nonspecific binding.
