Dendritic Cell and Monocyte Enumeration, Blood
Use
This test helps in diagnosing patients suspected of having defects in innate immunity, especially those involving the development of monocytes and dendritic cells. It is suited for identifying issues that may present alone or as part of a broader clinical syndrome. The test includes an enumeration of plasmacytoid dendritic cells, myeloid dendritic cells, and classical monocytes, contributing to the understanding of immunological conditions like genetic deficiencies affecting dendritic cell function.
Special Instructions
Testing is not performed on Saturdays, Sundays, or observed holidays. It's recommended that the specimen be collected and shipped to arrive within 24 hours of collection. Only send specimens for testing on days when testing is performed.
Limitations
This test has not been validated for diagnosing hematologic malignancies, and the full range of immune defects caused by dendritic cell deficiency is not yet established. A decrease in dendritic cell or monocyte counts may not necessarily be present in all individuals with a specific deficiency due to variable expressivity and lack of established genotype-phenotype correlations in certain conditions.
