Diphtheria Toxoid IgG Antibody, Serum
Use
This test is useful for determining a patient's immunological response to diphtheria toxoid vaccination, aiding in the evaluation of immunodeficiency. It measures antidiphtheria toxoid IgG antibodies, which indicate the immunological response after vaccination. A response is expected in vaccinated individuals, whereas failure to respond could indicate an underlying immunodeficiency or the effects of immunosuppressive therapy.
Special Instructions
If not ordering electronically, complete and send the Infectious Disease Serology Test Request form with the specimen. Ensure proper specimen collection by centrifuging and aliquoting serum into a plastic vial.
Limitations
This assay does not provide conclusive evidence of lack of protection against diphtheria or the presence of immunodeficiency. Results should be interpreted alongside clinical findings and other serological tests as many factors such as improper specimen collection or handling might interfere with results.
