Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) In Situ Hybridization, Technical Component Only
Use
This test is used for the detection of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-encoded RNA, which is helpful in the diagnosis of EBV-associated conditions such as infectious mononucleosis, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Burkitt lymphoma, B-cell lymphomas in immunocompromised patients, and some cases of classical Hodgkin lymphoma.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain, and does not provide a pathologist interpretation. Immunohistochemistry (IHC)/in situ hybridization (ISH) stains performed as a part of the PATHC / Pathology Consultation will be at the pathologist's discretion and may incur additional charges.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. Proper interpretation should be performed by a qualified pathologist considering the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests. The test's performance characteristics were determined consistent with CLIA requirements but have not been FDA cleared or approved. The age of paraffin sections may affect results, and slide conditions can affect staining quality.
