ERG Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The test is used for the identification of erythroblast transformation specific (ETS)-related gene (ERG) protein expression. ERG is a member of the ETS family of transcription factors and is associated with the _TMPRSS2-ERG_ gene rearrangement observed in prostate cancers.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical performance of the stain; no pathologist interpretation is provided. It should not be ordered with PATHC/Pathology Consultation. If ordered with PATHC, the technical component stains will be canceled.
Limitations
The test does not include pathologist interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. Age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and the stability of sections varies widely. Best practice is for paraffin sections to be cut within six weeks. Environmental factors can affect the charge of glass slides and alter slide staining, leading to inconsistent staining.
