Ethyl Glucuronide Screen, Random, Urine
Use
Screening for drug abuse involving alcohol; ethyl glucuronide is a direct metabolite of ethanol formed by enzymatic conjugation with glucuronic acid, detectable in urine for 1 to 3 days, extending the detection window beyond that for alcohol itself. A positive screen indicates potential presence but does not quantify use or effects; confirmatory testing is required for definitive identification.
Special Instructions
If not ordered electronically, a Therapeutics Test Request (T831) must be completed, printed and sent with the specimen.
Limitations
This immunoassay is a preliminary, semiquantitative screen and may yield false positives due to cross‑reactivity with other substances or false negatives due to antibody specificity. A more specific method such as liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry must be used for confirmation; positive results only indicate potential presence and not extent of physiological or psychological effects.
