Factor IX Inhibitor Profile Technical Interpretation
Use
Factor IX inhibitors arise in patients with severe hemophilia B after factor IX transfusion. Patients with factor IX inhibitors may also develop anaphylactic reactions in response to factor IX infusions. Acquired factor IX inhibitors, occurring in previously healthy people, are exceedingly rare. This test assists in the technical interpretation of inhibitor to factor IX testing for patients with hemophilia B.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Occasionally, a potent lupus-like anticoagulant may cause false-positive testing for a specific factor inhibitor (e.g., factor VIII or IX). If Factor IX activity level is normal or elevated, a computer-generated interpretive comment indicating inhibitor testing was not indicated and was not performed will be provided. Gross hemolysis, gross lipemia, and gross icterus may cause specimen rejection.
