Factor V Inhibitor Screen, Plasma
Use
This test is used for detecting the presence of a specific factor inhibitor directed against coagulation factor V. An inhibitor directed against a coagulation factor may arise due to multiple exposures from transfusions in a patient deficient in that factor, in response to certain disease states, or be drug-induced. Nonspecific inhibitors may also be present in patients that will prolong screening tests such as prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time.
Special Instructions
The test is only orderable as part of a profile, including Factor V Inhibitor Evaluation, Lupus Anticoagulant Profile, Bleeding Diathesis Profile, and Prolonged Clot Time Profile. See coagulation guidelines for specimen handling and processing for more details.
Limitations
This test may occasionally produce false-positive results in the presence of a potent lupus-like anticoagulant which can interfere with the detection of a specific factor inhibitor.
