Factor VII Inhibitor Profile, Technical Interpretation
Use
Coagulation factor inhibitors can arise in patients who are congenitally deficient in a specific factor in response to factor replacement therapy or can occur spontaneously without known cause or in response to a variety of medical conditions. This test provides a technical interpretation of an inhibitor to coagulation factor VII testing, which is useful in understanding the patient's hemostatic condition. It can also aid in diagnosing coagulation disorders in various clinical settings, including postpartum state, immunologic disorders, certain antibiotic therapies, some malignancies, and in older populations.
Special Instructions
The test is not orderable individually and can only be ordered as part of the 7INHE / Factor VII Inhibitor Evaluation, Plasma profile.
Limitations
Occasionally, a potent lupus-like anticoagulant may cause false-positive testing for a specific factor inhibitor (e.g., factor VIII or IX). Additionally, if the factor VII activity level is normal or elevated, the computer-generated interpretive comment may indicate that inhibitor testing was not performed as it was not indicated.
