Factor XI Inhibitor Profile, Technical Interpretation
Use
This test is used for the technical interpretation of inhibitor to coagulation factor XI testing. Factor XI inhibitors can arise in patients with congenital factor XI deficiency (hemophilia C) or after infusion of fresh frozen plasma or factor XI concentrates. These inhibitors are rare but can impact clinical management of bleeding disorders.
Special Instructions
Only orderable as part of a profile. For more information see 11INE / Factor XI Inhibitor Evaluation, Plasma. The test is not useful for detection of a lupus-like circulating anticoagulant inhibitor, a nonspecific circulating anticoagulant, or other inhibitors not specific for coagulation factors.
Limitations
The test does not detect lupus-like circulating anticoagulants or non-specific circulating anticoagulants. Occasionally, a potent lupus-like anticoagulant may cause false-positive results for a specific factor inhibitor such as factor VIII or IX. If factor XI activity is normal or elevated, inhibitor testing is not indicated and will not be performed.
