FUS Immunostain, Technical Component Only
Use
The FUS Immunostain, Technical Component Only test is useful for identifying frontotemporal lobar dementia. It involves the Fused in Sarcoma (FUS) protein, a multifunctional DNA- and RNA-binding protein associated with familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and other neurodegenerative diseases, including frontotemporal lobar dementia and neuronal intermediate filament inclusion disease.
Special Instructions
This test includes only the technical component of the immunohistochemical stain and does not include a pathologist interpretation. It should not be ordered alongside PATHC (Pathology Consultation), as this will result in cancellation of the technical component stains. Appropriate shipping labels must be used for transporting the specimen.
Limitations
This test does not include pathologist interpretation, only the technical performance of the stain. If interpretation is required, PATHC / Pathology Consultation should be ordered for a full diagnostic evaluation. The age of a cut paraffin section can affect immunoreactivity, and stability thresholds vary widely depending on the antigen. Best practices suggest cutting paraffin sections within 6 weeks to optimize immunoreactivity.
